Travel Guide To Europe On A Budget

Europe, the smallest of the seven continents, is a beautiful and frequently visited area of the world. From France to Italy to Sweden, there aren't many places in Europe that tourists don't visit on a constant basis. Many people feel that visiting the many exotic places in Europe requires a great deal of money, and while many do, there are ways for anyone with any budget to have fun-filled summer vacations in Europe. All you have to do is save, plan, research, and save some more, and you can plan the trip of a lifetime without spending your 401K or re-mortgaging your home in order to do so.

Europe on Layaway?

Believe it or not, there are many travel agencies that allow their clients to put trips on layaway. If you are unable to afford to pay the entire cost of the trip to Europe upfront, many will allow you to make regular payments toward the cost of your trip, which can include airfare, lodging, and even possibly some activities and transportation while you're actually on vacation. Not all travel agencies offer layaway, but if you'd like to pay for your trip to Europe this way, it's pretty easy to check around. If no agency in your neighborhood offers such a service, there are always internet-bases travel agencies for you to check out as well, which may bring you more luck.

Lodging Deals

If you have decided not to go with the layaway option and are still looking for cheap lodging options while vacationing in Europe, there are many choices available. Craigslist.com may seem like an unlikely place to look for lodging while on a vacation in Europe, but you'd be surprised at the deals you can find on comfortable places to stay while you're there. Say for instance you're going to vacation someplace in the United Kingdom and plan on staying for a month. Instead of staying in a pricey hotel, why not find a great temporary rental on Craigslist.com? You can check under the holiday rental subcategory and find some great deals. If you're not into Craigslist.com or haven't had any luck locating anything, there's always the option of traveling with friends or relatives in order to save money on the cost of your hotel room, as well. There is also the option of taking advantage of sites like hotwire.com or priceline.com as well.

Entertainment

There are many choices of attractions to enjoy while visiting Europe, many of them low-cost for those on budgets. Paris is one place to visit if you're in search of activities for little or no money. If you're into natural beauty, simply walking through the lovely flower-filled parks and gardens in this magnificent city can be very satisfying to many people. If the sight of flowers isn't quite enough entertainment for you, you'll be happy to know that Paris has a wonderful museum that offers admission absolutely free. The museum boasts permanent collections of paintings and other interesting pieces all related to the history of Paris. Additionally, Paris is also known for its nightlife, which is great for entertainment, as the city literally comes alive with crowds of people engaged in various activities at night. If you have an imagination, the sky is the limit when it comes to finding fun yet low-cost activities to do while in Paris, or any other European city, whether during the day or night.

Economical Eats

If you're staying at a hotel in France, one definite plus is the fact that the cost of your breakfast is included in the cost of your room, which only leaves you with the task of finding cheap cuisine for two meals of the day. This doesn't have to be difficult though, and of course there are many expensive five-star restaurants that may be tempting, but there are also many self-serve restaurants available that can be quite satisfying and a lot easier on the budget. Au Sauvignon wine bar on the corner of Rue du Four and Rue des Saints-Peres is known for cheaper prices for simple yet delicious French cuisine, if you're in search of a traditional restaurant to dine at for lunch or dinner.

Getting Around Town

Depending on what part of Europe you're vacationing in, there are plenty of choices for getting around town during your visit. There are taxis, which may not necessarily be your best choice if you're traveling long distances, though. There's public transit and trains available, and Paris offers free bus maps at their metro stations.

Vacationing in Europe on a budget is definitely possible as long as you're willing to make a few sacrifices and do your homework ahead of time. by planning ahead, you can ensure that you have enough money to do everything that you desire while on your dream vacation in Europe, while still remaining on whatever budget that you set for yourself. You don't need an expensive digital camera to capture all of your memories of Europe, either, as even a disposable ten-dollar camera will suffice and shouldn't cause anyone to go over their budget.
