Cheapflights.com Announces Changes In Popular Vacation Destinations This Past Year

Summer is almost over and this means many familes will see their vacation season coming to a quick end. the popularity of international flights has dropped this past July when compared to the preferences of travelers last July. One of the clear trends anyone looking at the list will notice from the most popular airline destinations on Cheapflights.com is that this past July there were no international locations in the top 10 destinations searched on cheapflights.com. These statistics were revealed in a press release issued by Cheapflights.com recently.

The press release indicates that part of the reason for the decrease in international flight searches could be the weakening power of the dollar compared with the pound. This change could be part of the reason that flights to London were number seven on the the top ten list last July but only number sixteen this July. The dollar's exchange rate per pound in July of 2006 was 1.8433 and it went up to 2.0355 dollars per pound in July of 2007 according to the press release.

"When travelers search for cheap flight deals, tourist destinations are a major component, " Carl Schwartz, who is the Director of Marketing for Cheapflights in the U.S explained. "London is a perennial favorite destination for Americans, however the unfavorable exchange rate has made the UK an expensive choice."

The top five destinations when compared between July 2006's list and July 2007's list so very few changes. All of the top four destinations remained the same and in the same exact order. The number one destination was Las Vegas, followed by Orlando, New York, and Chicago in order. The destinations that were fifth and sixth on the July 2006 list flip flopped as Los Angeles moved up to number five on the July 2007 list and Atlanta fell to number six.

The last four spaces in the top ten saw more changes than the top six though. London as mentioned above was number seven last July but fell to number sixteen this July. Denver dropped a spot to number nine on the list when compared with last year. It was leapfrogged both by Seattle which moved up to number seven after being number nine on the 2006 July list and Ft. Lauderdale which is at number eight in July 2007's list and a newcomer compared with last July's top 10. Rounding out the top ten was Dallas which was at it's same location on the list in July of 2007 as it was in July of 2006.

Regardless of your destination choice, it is likely that you will be facing longer delays over the next several months. The first high travel period is the Labor Day vacation period. Later in the year it will be followed by the winter holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's.
