Maid Of Honor Duties

Best Man DutiesServing as Maid of Honor remains a coveted position, but it does not come without some stress. So, if you are not sure how to fulfill your duties as Maid of Honor, use this guide to help make this task easier:

Love the bride. Make sure that you love the bride enough to give her your all in the upcoming months. Serving as Maid of Honor remains a trusted position. You will have to make a lot of sacrifices (including being tolerant of bouncing emotions), so make sure that you are up to the task. Otherwise, you will end up losing a dear friend. Remember, the bride chose you to be her backbone. Do not let her down by not serving well or by being bitter about having to serve.

Clear your schedule. Understand that your spare time is no longer your spare time until after the wedding. It now belongs to the bride. So, go ahead and clear your schedule for shopping and other tasks with which you will need to help the bride. The bride will need your help choosing her dress, her china pattern, and anything else she needs for the wedding/marriage. Even so, do not be offended if the bride fails to honor your suggestions and chooses something besides what you favor. Often, the bride really does not really need help with picking anything out, but just wants some moral support, so be sure and provide this for her.

Do the footwork. The bride will have her thoughts/emotions running in many different directions, so she might need help keeping her life together on a day-to-day basis. Be sure to offer her help in little ways, such as picking up her dry cleaning, shopping for groceries, or running errands for her. As well, do not forget to take her to lunch or just have her over for a quiet cup of coffee. She will need frequent stress-relieving conversations.

Hostess parties. Parties are always a fun part of upcoming weddings. Yes, do hostess different types of showers (such as kitchen showers and lingerie showers), but do not forget about the parties that you can throw just for fun, like a slumber party or a themed party. These types of parties allow for the bride to get together with her friends for some much-needed laughter. Too, these types of parties take some pressure off the event because the party does not require gifts, just fun attitudes and some kinship.

Stand by her side. Standing by the bride's side before the wedding is as important as standing by her side during the wedding. Be readily available to her the night before the wedding, spending the night with her, if necessary. She will need you to help her get everything together and make sure that everything gets to the wedding destination on time. Check and double check behind yourself and everybody else. You do not want a ruined wedding, resulting in finger pointing as to who failed at what. Just go ahead and take the extra steps to check on all the details (catering, minister, cake delivery, flower arrangements, honeymoon details, and any other point you can think of to check).

Help Her Dress. Dress yourself for the wedding well ahead of time. The bride will need you to help her make everything perfect as she dresses. Plus, she will need you to hold her hand and assure her that she is doing the right thing.

Wrap things up. After the wedding, be sure to personally see to it that all her gifts and personal items get back to her home (or yours) for safekeeping. This way, the new couple can leave for their honeymoon, without delay. Once they return from their honeymoon, do offer to help her organize the new gifts that they received at the wedding.
