4 Steps to learn a new language

You might be very much curious to learn a new language may it be a foreign language like Spanish, French, and Portuguese etc. Or may a local language like Hindi, Tamil, etc. But might be facing some problems while learning. I myself was very passionate of learning new languages but I had to face a number of hurdles. This was a learning experience for me. So I am presenting some tips so that one can learn new language quickly and easily. Of course there is no quick and short method to learn a language other than "Practice". But even if we practice a lot we lag behind a number of times. To overcome these shortcomings here are a few STEPS.

  1. Alphabets :First get well aquaited with the alphabets of the language and their pronunciation as well as with the vowels and consonants, the phonetics and pronunciation.
  2. Learn the Vocabulary: Remember once you have a proper vocabulary then only you can frame a sentence. Here vocabulary I don't mean any big complex words , I mean common group of words like numbers, vehicles, countries, animals, professions, terminology, diseases, etc. similar group of words.
  3. Learn how to frame a sentence: Once you are already equipped with a good vocabulary then its not difficult to frame a sentence. If you are lacking proper grammar still you can manage your grammar by expressing the word. Like if you need water you will say "Can I have some water". But If you don't know sentence formation but you have a vocabulary then it is enough if you can say "Water". Then also others can understand that you need some water.
  4. Grammar :By saying this I mean grammar is not the first thing you should learn in learning a language. Key thing is banking your brain with plenty of vocabulary. But then having knowledge of grammar makes others treat you as a learned person and a professional. Also a proper grammar fetches you a lot of respect from others.

The above are the four basic steps which can make you and amateur in any new language. Other than these you can also follow few more tips.

  1. Try to implement the new words which you have learnt in the new language as much as you can so that you get familiar with it.
  2. Try to write some small articles in the new language you have learnt.
  3. Try having a native language or English to ‘new language' dictionary.
  4. If possible try to get friends speaking the new language.
  5. Try to chat online with the new language on internet.
  6. Try to go through newspapers online in the new language.
  7. Try using google translator for help.
  8. Try to listen to the new language through various sources on internet. But this is only in the later stages of learning.

Hope I have given you some useful tips to learning new language. Happy learning.

I'm 13, so I'm young with a "sponge mind" lol. I want to learn a new language, and already have some family members that speak somewhat of that language. I read that Rosetta Stone doesn't make you fluent in the language, but able to make you carry on a conversation. So any tips on working on being fluent? I don't know, you were supposed answer not ask :P Totally makes sense... :/

How long does it take to learn a new language ? (Answers: 4) (Comments: 0)
Ive noticed some people appear to have no problem with living/working in another Country/Continent and not understanding, or being understood. While other people make their ability to communicate a high priority. Spending more than half the year in Europe, I find there is more of an overall INTEREST in the ability to communicate than I find in the USA. In fact, there's almost a steadfast defiance to NOT learn a new language.
