Why Mandarin Chinese Is One of the Easiest Languages to Learn - Reason 4

In my earlier articles I discussed how easy Mandarin Chinese is to learn because of its amazingly simple verb conjugations and also how easy it is to express all of their verbs in the past tense and future tense

Now I want to demonstrate how easy Mandarin Chinese is when it comes to learning new vocabulary.

How many stores have you been to where they have the sign "Buy 2 get 1 free"? We all love to get a bargain and discounts. Well, when it comes to learning Mandarin Chinese I kind of think us language learners are getting a HUGE bargain when it comes to "brainspace" and challenges to our memory.

Let me illustrate. Imagine someone learning English. Here are 3 words that a foreigner would have to learn:

Fire
Mountain
Volcano

Those 3 words are entirely different and have no relation to one another. Someone learning English would have to learn all 3 words by memorization. But in Mandarin Chinese you only need to learn 2 and you get the 3rd one free! This is because Mandarin Chinese is kind of like a building block language. You just need to learn the basic words of the language and then you combine those words you already know in order to make new words. So in the above example you only need to learn:

Fire
Mountain

And your "free" word "volcano" is simply expressed by saying "fire mountain"

This phenomenon is something you see very regularly in Mandarin Chinese. Here are some more examples:

Good
Eat
Good eat = delicious

Years
Light (as in weight, ie not heavy)
Years light = young

Hand
Machine
Hand machine = mobile phone

Electric
Word (Spoken)
Look at
Image
Stairs
Brain
Electric word (spoken) = telephone
Electric look at = television
Electric image = movie/film
Electric stairs = elevator
Electric Brain = Computer

With the example above involving "electric" it's actually a learn 6 and get 5 free! Therefore, in my opinion, this is an easy language to learn ALSO because you don't need to learn every single individual word in the language. You can just learn the basic words and get more complex words for free by just remembering how to combine the basic words to form new complex logical meanings. The combinations of these words are not strange at all as you can see above, they are very logical and therefore very easy to remember. I think this is just yet another reason why Mandarin Chinese is one of the easiest languages to learn to speak (I'm not at all referring to reading or writing in these series of articles).

In my next article I will continue to demonstrate more ways in which this language has a very logical structure making it easy to learn.

The Author started learning Mandarin Chinese over 5 years ago, and was amazed at how easy this language was despite what he had heard. He now lives in China in order to perfect his language ability in hopes of becoming a professional freelance translator/interpreter one day. In his spare time he enjoys tinkering with his Learn Chinese Online blog and his Slimming Tea & Smooth Move Tea websites

Are English and Japanese the easiest languages to learn around the World?
I'm Mexican. I consider myself fluent in English and Japanese. I have studied, and I understand a lot of French, but I don't consider myself fluent. Many people ask me how did I learn Japanese so well, yet I can't learn French as well. People think that Japanese must be more difficult than French, but it's not. French is a lot more difficult. English is very easy to learn simply because of all the English available. In Mexico, there is a lot of American music. There's a lot of American channels. There are many American movies. There are American books and newspapers. Japanese may be very complicated. But in Mexico, there's also a lot of Japanese material available. In Mexico there are a lot of Otaku interested in the Japanese culture. There's a lot of Anime on cable TV. There's a lot of Manga everywhere. Anime has a lot of popular Japanese music. You can actually find a lot graphic novels from Japan here in Mexico. French is difficult simply because there's not barely any French material available. There are NO French TV shows famous as American movies or Japanese Anime. There's NO French reading materials widely available like American comics or Manga. I don't know of any French popular songs. I never hear French anything. People hear American music everywhere, and you can hear Japanese music on Anime. I know that the French wrote great works of literature, and great pieces of music. But I don't know of anything that the French have done recently. Whereas the Japanese and American keep coming up with fresh new things. Considering all the American and Japanese material available Worldwide, Are English and Japanese the easiest languages to learn around the World?

What is an easy language to learn where you DO NOT have to roll your R's?
I am really trying to learn a new language. And I can not roll my R's for the Spanish language. Because one, this stupid Japanese girl and my ex best friend keep talking in a Japanese and my ex friend keeps cussing us out in Japanese. (Hence the words ex best friend) So If I learn a new language, maybe she'll see how much fun it is to have someone talk about them in a different language and not sure if you should be offended or flattered. Two, it really would look good for collage to be fluent in a different language. So can someone please help me? lol I tried learning Japanese, but I always got confused with all the symbels. lol I was thinking either German or Italian. I heard they where simple. Is Latin simple?

I'm moving to Russia for a year! questions?
OK, so I'm moving to Russia for a year to stay with my Auntie (my dads sister). This is just like an extended holiday so I can experience more of my Russian heritage. I live in Australia at the moment and know very little Russian (only hello, goodbye, etc.), is Russian an easy language to learn? Also what's the temperature like in Russia? It's very cold right? I have barely any winter clothes... And is Russia safe? are there many police? I went to an International school and there were a couple of Russian in my class that were all very racist. Are most Russian like this; racist? Oh and I'm moving to Moscow if that helps. P.S. one last thing; I've done ballet since I was four, I would say I am good but not nearly as good as Russian standards. Is there any way I could continue this practice in Russia? or would I have to practice independently?
