How To Make Jewelry Out Of Real Flowers

How To Make Jewelry

We've all gazed at flowers in a vase or garden and wished they'd last forever. And some of us have even stuck a flower or two in our hair to carry their stunning beauty with us throughout the day. And then, inevitably, the flower dies and we are reminded that beauty is fleeting. Not so! You can make long-lasting jewelry out of real flowers and carry that beautiful flower from your spouse or child with you permanently.

Supplies You'll Need: flowers liquid polyresin paint brush heavy books jewelry supplies (earring hooks, etc)

How to Do It: 1. Pick the right flowers. The flowers you use will need to be fairly durable and in good health when you use them. Don't pick a flower that is already dying or a flower whose petals break if you touch it.

2. Cut the flowers off of their stems. Make sure there's not excess stem that could interfere with jewelry making, but also make sure you don't separate any vital parts of the flowers.

3. Dry the flowers. This can be accomplished by hanging the flowers upside down or pressing them in a book. While hanging them upside down can take a bit more time, it's generally a better way to make sure the flower maintains its shape and is the best approach for large flowers like lilies. If you need to poke a hole in a part of the flower to attach an earring or necklace piece, make sure to do this before you begin drying your flowers!

4. Coat the flowers with several coats of polyresin. The polyresin will preserve the flowers after they are dried. Allow the polyresin to dry for a day or two. If you're happy with the way your flowers work, you can proceed to making your jewelry. If not, add another coat.

5. Make your jewelry! Once the flowers are coated in polyresin, they function much like beads or charms. You can attach them to earrings, necklaces, hair clips, etc.

For an added touch, get some essential oil in a floral scent and dab it on your flower jewelry. Essential oil's scent is extraordinarily long-lasting, so you'll have real flower jewelry that smells like a real flower!

What things should I make to sell? (Like lip gloss, or lip balm. . .)?
I was thinking about making lip gloss or lip balm but there is this girl at school who is already making that. I just need more money for buying some Christmas presents for my family. Is there anything else I could make that would be useful? And not anything with baking please. :) Thanks!
