Miss Bethany's Top 10 Ways To Make Better Grades In College

So...you're in college. You may be a new student or an experienced student. You may be a young student or a middle-aged student. Most of us want to be successful in college so here are Miss Bethany's top 10 ways to make better grades in college. This will definitely help you to be more successful.

10. Immediately organize all your class materials.

the first day of class you should find an organizational system that works for you. I use a plastic expanding folder that is divided into nine sections because my classes are nine weeks long. This way, I have a section for each week of class to keep assignments, notes, etc. I carry this folder with me when I go to the university resource center, to class or to study so everything I might need is within reach at all times.

9. Eat right.

Your body and mind need the proper fuel to keep you healthy, vibrant and ready to learn. Eat nutritious meals and snacks. Take advantage of your university cafeteria. Keep a good stock of fresh fruits and vegetables on hand to avoid sugar plunges.

8. Try to work ahead.

If you can work ahead in your classes, that will make your class experience a lot easier. Always working at the last minute will cause you stress. If you wait until the last minute and then realize you need something you don't have or there is a requirement you had not noticed before then you may have to turn in your assignment late, and that will more than likely result in a lower grade than you would have earned if your assignment had been turned in on time.

7. Do something every day.

If you do something on your school work every day then you won't get so easily overwhelmed. Read a chapter or work on a project. Everything is easier in baby steps. This is one way to assure you make better grades in college.

6. Study outside when possible.

I find that I do my best studying and cover more material when I study outside. Whether I'm on my patio at home or at the park, the mental juices just flow better outdoors.

5. Thank professors for their feedback.

I find that it always helps to have a little extra interaction with my professors. I always thank them when they give me my grades or feedback. No matter what the grade is, I learn from my mistakes, and learning is what college is all about, right? Professors seem to be much more eager to assist when they are not only approached when you have a complaint or need something. Professors are human too, and we all like praise.

4. Participate in class discussions.

It is very important to participate in class discussions. For one thing, this will keep you alert and on your toes. You learn better when you are interacting with others, talking and listening than if you are slumped over in your seat or twittering on your Blackberry. More class participation is a sure way to make better grades in college.

3. Improve your writing skills.

If I could only give you one piece of advice, that would be to improve your writing skills. Your level of success not only in college, but also in life, depends on how well you communicate in writing. This has always been important, but even more so now with the abundant e-mails we send and receive. We are all judged at one time or another by our writing skills. I have even heard numerous people say they won't date anyone they meet through online dating services who write poorly. Writing skills are extremely important!

2. Have an attitude of learning.

A lot of students feel they are just in college doing what they must do to get the job they want. This is not the most favorable attitude to have. Learning is never a waste. Get your attitude into the learning place and you will go far in your college career.

1. Don't do your school work while drunk.

Seriously, folks...this is an issue. There is a young man in one of my classes who does his school work while drunk. It shows. We all know he's drunk during the class discussions, and he even admits it. While excess partying in college may be acceptable, doing your assignments while drunk is a very bad idea.

With school starting soon, Miss Bethany's Top 10 ways to make better grade in college will have you ready to learn. Good luck!
