How To Improve Your Child's Retention Ability

How To Improve School GradesMany children have the ability to easily understand academic concepts. they can perform their homework and in class work well and get good grades. However, when they take quizzes tests, or annual achievement tests, their test scores are so low they do not match the high grades of their daily school work. This is a sign that a child has a retention problem.

Ways To Improve A Child's Retention Practice Just as a person practices playing a sport or musical instrument to improve performance, a child must practice his/her studies. The practice of applying academic concepts is the best way to get a child to retain his/her studies. The best way to give a child this practice is for a parent to purchase extra curricular study material. Such curriculum can be found in the form of workbooks and work sheets and can be found at educational stores and large scale book stores. In addition to homework, have a child to frequently, at least four times a week, complete an extra practice assignment. When completing an assignment have the child to do it without the aid of a text book. This will force the child to rely on his or her memory, which will in turn improve retention and memory skills.

Make a child do extra practice material in the subjects of English grammar and mathematics will strengthen his or her ability in these subjects, which are a weak point for many students.

Following is a listing of web sites that offer learning materials in math, English, writing, reading for children in grades ranging from K-12.

Reading The school's science and history texts can be very boring reads to a child. Children will least likely be motivated to retain information form subjects they consider boring. To encourage children to learn and retain science and history a parent should have his or her child to read materials that are fun and interesting as well as teach important historical and scientific facts.

Writing Writing is a third way of improving a child's retainment ability. A person should have a child to keep a daily journal and have a child write a book report of every book he or she reads. Writing is as excellent way to practice English grammar, writing skills, and spelling.

Also a parent should read aloud from the child's text books and have the child to take notes. This sharpens a child's listening skills, and the ability to pick out important details. This skill is important for a child to develop before entering college.

Repetition and constant application of academic concepts is an excellent way of strengthening a child's retainment and learning ability. A child's retention ability can determine his or her success in primary school, college, and beyond.
