Taylor Guitars - An American Success Story

Guitars MartinTaylor Guitars has seen unprecedented growth since its humble beginnings back in October of 1974. Co-founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug have virtually built an acoustic guitar empire in the 30 plus years of the companies' existence, and the momentum of this organization shows no signs of stopping. What is it about Taylor Guitars that has made them so successful and what makes the Taylor guitar so highly regarded?

Innovation

Taylor Guitars decided early on to build guitars that stood out from the pack and in 1976 began producing acoustic guitars that became a legitimate alternative to Martin guitars- and the price was competitive. Since that time one of the biggest innovations has been the NT (New Technology) neck. Many guitar necks tend to bend slightly after being exposed to various humidity levels over the years; the NT neck solved this problem by providing equal stability to all frets on the guitar neck. If the neck ever does need an adjustment an experienced guitar tech can accomplish this in just a few short minutes as the neck is not glued to the body, but rather bolted to it. Another great innovation by Taylor Guitars is the ES (Expression System). The whole idea behind the ES was to have a pickup system that would produce as natural an acoustic sound as possible. This natural sound was achieved by an all-magnetic pickup system that picks up sound much the same way a microphone does.

Creativity and business know how working together

Taylor Guitars has benefited greatly by having two guys at the helm who have completely different talents but use them together to create something special. Bob Taylor is a talented luthier who brings experience, quality and innovation to the craft of guitar construction and Kurt Listug is a savvy business man who knew that just having a great guitar wasn't enough; it had to be aggressively marketed. It is rare in any part of the entertainment industry for the creative and business entities to understand each other and work well together, but Taylor Guitars has done just that.

The Taylor Guitar road show

Does your local music store only carry a few models of the Taylor guitar-or none at all? The Taylor road show is a guitar lover's dream. The road show travels to about 200 cities a year and attendees can learn how Taylor guitars are made and can also try out most of the models Taylor produces in the "petting zoo". Many times at these road shows celebrity musicians who are partial to Taylor guitars will show up and perform with their Taylor guitar.

True quality guitars for the beginner through advanced player

You won't find any mediocre guitars in the whole Taylor guitar lineup. If you're just beginning to play and are serious about your craft, a Taylor guitar is a great investment. Beginner models start out in the $1000 range, and even if you decide to never upgrade, this quality guitar will last you a lifetime.

The Taylor Guitar Company is certainly a true American success story. Innovation, creativity, business savvy and a high standard of craftsmanship has served them well in the past and will surely keep them at the forefront of the acoustic guitar market for years to come.
