Motion Graphics College

These days, Americans seem to have shorter and shorter attention spans. Or, perhaps, people have always had relatively short attention spans, and modern technology has merely allowed us to indulge to an unprecedented degree in our love of exciting, rapidly changing imagery that moves in front of our eyes. Whatever the case, this trend is good news for visual artists and storytellers with a taste for technology, who wish to put their stories and characters in motion using the latest animation techniques. The best place to learn the required skills for this branch of the arts is a motion graphics college or animation art school. If you can't find a specialized animation art school, don't worry. Most art schools, and even some art departments at big universities, offer some sort of animation program for aspiring motion graphics artists.
Education For Motion Graphics Artists What should aspiring motion graphics artists study in school? First, they should gain a solid art background, so that they can understand how to represent three-dimensional characters in two-dimensional space, or use computer programs to model three-dimensional characters. An animator needs keen observation skills and a thorough knowledge of anatomy, just as much as any other artist. Perhaps more than other artists, animators need to know how bodies move. Classes in physics and mathematics could be useful, especially for those who intend to get heavily involved in realistically modeling the movement of 3-d objects. Second, and perhaps most obvious, aspiring animators should take classes that will acquaint them with the latest industry-standard software. Students interested in 3-d animation should learn Maya and POV-Ray. Those who want to make animations for the web should take Flash courses. If you're interested in using your motion graphics skills in movies, you should receive visual effects training. Remember: whether you're working in Hollywood or Wisconsin, video production will often require the assistance of motion graphics artists with solid visual effects training.
Seeking Careers In Animation? Art School Graduate?Studying motion graphics in school will help you land a wide variety of careers. At the most basic level, if you've taken Flash courses you can use your knowledge to build a solid web design portfolio for yourself. You'll be able to charge more for your work by making dynamic, interactive websites for those clients who want to stand out from the pack (or, in the case of some high-profile clients, simply be able to compete with the pack). If you've studied 3-d modeling you'll be able to plot out the movements of characters in video games. If you've managed to combine your knowledge of 3-d rendering software with a solid background in physics and math, you'll even be able to design physics engines for games--or for simulators that train government soldiers. Alternately, without leaving your bedroom in Minnesota or Wisconsin, video production can be yours to master with the aid of digital video technology. In short, with a motion graphics college education--unless all the computers in the world are somehow destroyed, or become sentient and hostile to mankind--your career will be unstoppable.

Should I join the Air Force & if I do, could I still pursue my Graphic Artist Dream?
Hello to all from Yahoo. I recently just graduated college from Indiana University with a Bachelors in Media Arts & Science. I've had a dream in pursuing a career as a 2D & 3D Digital Artist (specifically cartoons), but times are so rough right now to where I honestly can't. I'm financially in a situation to where I need to support my family and fast before life goes sour for them, no one is really hiring due to our economy right now, and I'm at a slump in wanting to just work instead of train in my field of becoming a Graphic Artist. I come from a family who has a military background (Great Grand Father was a Tuskegee Airman) and my mother has always told me that the Air Force is such a unique and great experience that will really get me to focus, and at the same time continue my dream as a Graphic Artist. I've heard great things from friends as well who've been in the air force and recommend that with my background in computer work, I should check into it as well. But what do you think I should do people of Yahoo? Continue my Graphic Artist training and hope that someone will pick me up in the industry, or should I receive intense training from the airforce and continue that training as a Graphic Artist?
