Pop-Up Sprinkler Head Installation

Ez Up GazebosWhen you are considering installing an underground sprinkler system in your yard perhaps you should think about using pop-up sprinkler heads as opposed to stationary rotary heads. Pop-up sprinkler heads are great for a family with an active yard lifestyle. My father takes a lot of care to manicure his yard, remove divots, place red mulch around his trees and provide relaxation areas such as a hammock and a gazebo. For someone like my Dad who likes to play Bocce in his yard then pop-up sprinklers would be the best choice for a home underground irrigation system.

Tips for Installing Pop-Up Sprinkler Systems: Water Pressure: the first thing you will need to do before even planning your underground pop-up sprinkler head system is to find out how much water pressure you have. Most water systems do not have enough pressure to water an entire yard at once. You can get a water pressure gauge from your local Home Depot or similar garden supply store. You will need to have about 30 - 35 pounds of water pressure per minute to make an underground pop-up sprinkler system work.

Tips for Installing Pop-Up Sprinkler Systems: Map Your Yard: When designing your pop-up underground sprinkler system you will want to provide a detailed map to your supplier. You can decide how many systems will be in place and can even vary the pressure sent to each system. If you have an expansive front yard that is open and just for show then perhaps you make that one system with rotating pop-up sprinkler heads. If you have a garden then that is another system with less pressure and lower spouts for more root irrigation. If you have a gazebo and a hammock then you may want to have stationary pop-up sprinklers in that area so as not to soak the hammock. Tips for Installing Pop-Up Sprinkler Systems: The Right Tools: Before you go out and dig holes all over your yard make sure you have all of your equipment. If you are even considering a pop-up underground sprinkler system then chances are you like to have the best yard on the block. Get all the tools you need at once so that this is not a long process and your yard does not end up looking like a construction zone. Some of the tools you will need for this project are a 100' measuring tape, hacksaw, string, PVC pipe, risers, pocket knife, PVC cleaner, stop and waste valve, control valves, graph paper, steep tape measure, level, shovel, pipe fittings, sprinkler heads, emery paper, PVC solvent, controllers, antisiphon valves, pencils and sharpies.

Tips for Installing Pop-Up Sprinkler Systems: Conclusion: Pop-up sprinkler systems work best for very busy yards or very big yards. Pop-up sprinkler systems are great because you can mow right over them, you can play Frisbee in the yard and no one will twist an ankle on a sprinkler and they are virtually invisible except when working. This year plan carefully and work diligently and you will have a lush yard for years to come.
